Part 1 of 2
I”m going to make an attempt at teaching you how to blog. I’m not a blog guru, but I’ve listened to quite a few who know what they’re doing and I’m happy to share what I’ve learned here. not all the ideas are mine and I’m happy to link to those sources. many things reflect what a lot of others who teach how to blog say as well. this is simply my rendition and mash of it. I”m not the first to write a blog and I’m not the last. please enjoy.
Develop A Plan Your Reads Will Crave More Of
First things first. You need to develop a plan, take out your pen or your doc’s on your phone and begin to write out your week. monday to Sunday and pick a time each day that you can schedule into your life to make time for blogging.
Of course, you’ll want to have the desire to blog and write and to keep at it until you start to earn your success. you have to think a long game here. there is no quick money in this.
now that you have about an hour each day mapped out. you’ll want to jot down what you’ll do each day.
- You’ll want a day where you plan your weekly blogs, grind out some titles and ideas and put as many ideas as you can think of to paper or a place where you can easily come back to and find
- pick 3-4 days that you want to actually write. I’m going to suggest to blog at a slower pace at first to build up consistency. then you can rock out and do one a day later down the road.
- take a day to build your website, polishing up how it looks and making sure everything is in order, also consider setting up email campaigns, linking blogs to them and so on.
- take a day to do links in your posts and SEO, which means search engine optimization. (however, this isn’t necessary at first) links yes, SEO no.
- make sure to plan on a rest day. no need in being frazzled over a blog when it’s supposed to be all about the passion and love you have for it or the topic.
The most important thing is getting your ideas down. You will want to select a topic for your blog site. you’ll want to think about things you’re passionate about. and then find a way to link them together. I like to have 3-5 categories that you expand upon. so fitness, nutrition, and stretching could be your categories. Under each category, I would write my blog ideas down. and place those into a table as below, I’d brainstorm as many ideas as I could. even ideas from those ideas. so I might talk about the four food groups, and then expand on that even more and talk about the best of the four food groups and why.
How To Write Like Your Going Places
I’m going to assume you know how to write. you’ve gone to school, or maybe you haven’t but somewhere you’ve learned the basics of writing and the skills you need to put your thoughts on paper. There are cool apps out there that let you do speech to text, although they are not perfect, they do let you just run off your thoughts.
another app I would suggest is Grammarly, its amazing for correcting spelling mistakes and even putting your sentences together so they make sense. You can get an extension for it in google chrome or your browser of choice
This is what I do. I look at the topics I’ve written down on day one and select one. Then
After I have my ideas down, filling in the blanks is fairly simple as you just talk about each section or stretch as you would talking to someone your teaching about stretching.
with that in mind, some suggest creating an avatar. have someone in mind that you can speak to and write your blog as you would talk to this avatar. I don’t do this but some people might find it works. I think It would be super cool to get one of those old movie cardboard characters staring back at you. like a picture of Rambo or something.
Let’s talk about setting up your website. first thing I would say is that there are expensive ways, and there are cheap ways to go about doing this. I’ve spent about 60$ for the year and I’m very happy with my website. you might decide to join a company that would cost more.
I use WordPress, at first I was against it and was only using Wix. but then I realized WordPress has a back door. meaning. I could install WordPress on a host site and be up and running for free after that. The website I use to host is DreamHost, and they’ve served me well, they even offer a one-click install. from my research, their site speeds are very good as well. you can also purchase your domain from them. I purchased mine from GoDaddy and found my site name for 10$
I must admit it was quite confusing getting everything in order to get my website sorted but I simply used youtube to learn how to set everything up myself, and I recommend you do the same.
